During the pandemic, I found myself annoyed and frustrated with a lot of things, mainly regarding how African countries were being depicted in mainstream media. There was a narrative around how they expected African countries struggling to manage the virus and then the "experts" being shocked that European nations as well as the USA are the worst affected in comparison to African nations. Then I started to think about history, asking myself "How did it lead to this?" Then the mainstream history of African nations is again, very depressing and negative, with nothing to be proud of, mainly Slavery, apartheid and colonisation. I thought to myself "What happened before Europeans reached Africa?" That is when the idea started as I found lots of historical accounts for many African nations where there were kingdoms, technology, art and riches and so on. Positive things, things to be proud of. The information was difficult to find as they are almost hidden away and not amalgamated into a dedicated space purely focusing on the rich and proud history of the many African nations of the continent. That is why this blog page is here, with the aim of having a place purely focusing on positive African history with the hope of making the positive history more visible to the world.
